Proposed several robust control and predictive control methods for complex manufacturing processes with multi-variable, uncertainty, nonlinearity and large delays; developed a novel monitoring method for discrete-event systems; researched and developed a series of predictive control and advanced process control software which were widely used in complex manufacturing processes such as large electric grid power generators and large-scale petrochemical processes, yielded significant economic and social benefits. As the secondary principle investigator, the project was awarded the 2nd class National Scientific Technology Progress Award in 2003.
