The First-Level Discipline of Control Science and Engineering of Zhejiang University originated the first Chemical Engineering Automation major of China, which was founded in 1956 and began to enroll graduate students in 1961. The discipline of Industrial Automation, which was founded based on the major, was approved to grant the doctor degree in 1981 and began to enroll doctoral students in 1984. It was authorized as the only National Key Discipline of Industrial Automation by the State Education Commission in 1988. The discipline also offers a postdoctoral program of Control Science and Engineering since 1989. It turned to a First-Level Discipline in Control Science and Engineering of doctor degree grantee in1998, covering four second-level disciplines, including two National Key Disciplines, Control Theory and Engineering, Testing Technology and Automatic Equipment, and two Zhejiang Provincial Key Disciplines, System Engineering, Pattern Recognition and Intelligent System. The National Key First-Level Discipline of Control Science and Engineering was authorized by Ministry of Education in 2007.
The discipline of Control Science and Engineering of Zhejiang University is ranking forefront at national level and advanced in the field of industrial application and control equipment in our country. Nowadays, it is driving for the first class discipline in control science and engineering
with considerable international influence.
