Summary: The Cyber Physical System (CPS) has been recognized one of the top priorities in emerging science and engineering areas worldwide. The seminar starts with a brief introduction to the evolution of systems control, and the challenge to control community in information rich era. Then presents (1) what are cyber physical systems? (2) the key characteristics and architectures of a CPS; (3) the potential applications of CPS in IT, control and man-made engineering systems; (4) the research challenges, opportunities and open problems in fundamental, methodology, system design and applications of CPS to develop new generation of industrial control. Finally, the concluding remarks are addressed with the picture of future industrial control based on the integration of computation, communication, networking and control. The goal of this seminar is to provide both MS/PhD candidates and professors with an overview on bridging cyber and physical systems with multidisciplinary research.
