通过罗兰·W·路易斯教授长期任著名国际期刊的主编经历,介绍创办国际期刊需要注意的问题,具体涉及以下几方面
1. Positioning of a journal
Who is the journal’s target audience?
What is the proposed title?
What other titles are there in this area?
How would the new launch differ to its competitors in terms of offering?
Does the Aims and Scope cover emerging hot topics or trends?
What do funding trends look like in this area?
2. Human element in a journal
Structure of the editorial team, e.g. Editor-in-Chief, Associate/Regional Editors, Editorial Assistants, etc.; define roles and responsibilities; international reputations in the field; experience of running journals;
Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) members
3. Operation model
How can the journal attract high-quality submissions?
How to link with associations and/or conferences in boosting the title’s profile, attract submissions, and extend reach?
How to show the visibility of the journal through various platforms?
Is there sufficient public funding in the area for the journal to be exclusively Gold Open Access? If not, would it be capable of covering its costs through subscriptions—is the community large enough and appetite sufficient?

罗兰•W•路易斯(Roland W. Lewis)教授
School of Engineering, Swansea University (Formerly University of Wales, Swansea), UK
 
罗兰W路易斯(Roland W. Lewis)教授是世界著名计算力学专家。1984年起任威尔士大学斯旺西分校教授,1996-2002年任机械工程学系系主任,1997年成为英国皇家工程院院士。2002年获国际计算力学协会计算力学奖,并成为协会会士。他的主要研究方向包括铸造过程中的流动和凝固、多孔介质中的传质传热、多孔材料中的固结和流动、颗粒材料的压实等。他是International Journal of Numerical Methods in EngineeringCommunications in Numerical Methods in EngineeringInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Heat and Fluid Flow的主编,以及其它12个国际学报的编委。其中International Journal of Numerical Methods in Engineering是国际上工程中的数值方法方面的两本最权威期刊之一,他长期担任该学报的主编,具有极大的学术影响力。
